Mrs. Pickrell Rides again!

And here we are again– ever eager for yet another technological adventure!

For those not familiar with me, I am a teacher in Ketchikan, Alaska (current world record holders for the most participants in a rain boot race! whoot! http://www.worldrecordacademy.com/sports/largest_rain_boot_race_Ketchikan_breaks_Guinness_world_record_213401.html).  I taught in a private school for 6 years, grades ranging from 4th to 8th grade.  I took 2 years off to have a baby and to pursue my Master’s degree.  A couple of weeks ago I walked in my UAS commencement ceremony, even though I won’t be finished with my Reading Specialist certification until this summer.  I guess I’m committed now…  I’m hoping to be accepted into the Ed. Tech. program this fall.  I’m just loving what these classes have to offer!

As previously stated, most of my classroom experience is with intermediate grades, but I’ve done most of my field work for grad school with primary grades.  What I love the most about the older students is that they think I’m the “cool” teacher, because I love gaming and I know how to geek out with them.

I am also an independent health coach.  My current claim to fame is that I’ve lost over 103lbs. since last fall!  This has been revolutionary for my life!  Not only can I now keep up with my two kids (4 and 1 1/2), but I am now free to pursue the sports that I really want to do, like fencing and roller derby!  And it’s a real joy to pay it forward and help others get healthy.  I’m more than happy to share with anyone who is interested.

So there you have it!  Tiffany Pickrell in a nutshell!  And there’s one of my comparison pics, because I’m pretty stoked about how far I’ve come.  Yes, that IS me, and yes, I WAS close to 300lbs. when I started.  Pretty cool, huh? 😀  I look forward to working with you all!

  1. Fencing? Is there a fencing club in Ketchikan? I’ve only known 2 other people who fenced! Congratulations!

    • I used the run the fencing club here in Ketchikan a few years back, but I was very new to teaching and got pretty fed up when it was just being used as a babysitting service for jr. highers. I’d like to start one again, but it’s a matter of finding time.
